Phil Collins had spent 11 years as a drummer and sometimes singer with Genesis and worked as a session percussionist with the likes of Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, and John Cale when he released his first solo album in 1981, Face Value. The album soon turned one of the best respected musicians in British progressive rock into an unlikely pop star with such hits as "In the Air Tonight," "This Must Be Love," "Behind the Lines" and "Please Don't Ask." This episode of the Classic Albums series looks at the making of the album, featuring interviews with Collins and producer/engineer Hugh Padgham, and performances of the songs that Collins taped especially for this special.
