An eccentric and intriguing mix of pop-tinged roots reggae and dancehall tracks, Irie Reggae Hits features the ubiquitous "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle, Israel Vibration's beautiful and wise "The Same Song," and Sinéad O'Connor's reggae rhythm-paced "Throw Down Your Arms." Bob Marley is represented here by the 1971 version of "Kaya" produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry, which is arguably both more Jamaican sounding and far superior to the later and better-known version recorded by Marley in 1977 for Island Records. Although Irie Reggae Hits is somewhat skewed to the pop side of things, it definitely has enough variety to make it an interesting set.
